It's been exactly one week since we arrived back in China from our idyllic one-week getaway in the Maldives but we still couldn't get the hang of it, still feeling like floating in the turquoise sea. It will probably take a lifetime to forget Maldives. I will not focus on writing about the full details of our Maldives trip anymore. You can read about them in Hubby's blog. What I will do now is just to give you all the highlights of the trip. So here goes...

SPLENDID VIEWS: From the seaplane and into the island of your choice, Maldives gives you the most splendid views you can ever ask for. The sight of islands and atolls dotted around the turquoise Indian Ocean is indeed one-of-a-kind. And waking up everyday to the view of the ocean is also an experience in itself. It is so peaceful and relaxing.

GOOD FOOD: It's very hard not to think of food when I travel to a new place. That is why, we took the 'Select All-inclusive Package' when we booked for our stay at Kuramathi. This gives us the freedom to dine in any of the island's restaurants any time we want to. Most of our lunches and one dinner were at the Palm Pizzeria and Gelateria. From the name, it is an Italian restaurant offering pasta, pizza and gelato with some good salads and appetizers. We also loved the food at The Reef and the Island Barbeque. They offer mostly grilled choices of seafood and meat. There was also the Siam Garden Restaurant offering Thai food. But I have to admit my most favorite is the Tandoor Mahal offering Indian food. I really love Indian food and I was so glad that the second time we had dinner there, it was during the Indian buffet. It was the first time I had Indian buffet and I really loved it. Not to be outdone, even the buffet restaurant where we always have breakfast and some lunches was also good with a good variety of food choices.

GOOD PEOPLE: We always value the friendships we form and the contacts we've made with people in all of our travels. In Kuramathi I can truly say that they have the best hotel staff in the world. I've never been given such generous hospitality before. Everybody was so courteous and polite - from the guest services team that you encounter everyday, to the waiters in the restaurants, to the drivers of the bus and buggy rides and even to the maintenance staff that we encounter every morning when we were doing our early morning walks.  I'm glad that we did not believe what some people in Tripadvisor said about the people at Kuramathi. All that we experienced during our one-week stay there were actually the opposite.

AWESOME SNORKELLING: Hubby and I only just learned to snorkel in Maldives by ourselves and although I can swim, I don't really trust myself in the deep waters. That's why I was so happy that in Maldives, you don't have to swim very far to get a good snorkelling experience. Even in knee-deep waters you can see abundant and colorful marine life. The water is also very clear that you can always see fishes, big and small, swimming by. On Saturday morning, our last day on the island, I even saw a big stingray swim by our villa, not to mention the black tip reef sharks that pass by every single day.

FUNNY BUT FRIENDLY ANIMALS: In Maldives you also get to meet some quirky characters like the Grey Heron. It is so unbelievable to think that they can just stand motionless for hours on end when they are waiting for their meal to swim by. There's also the ghost crabs. They are as white as the sand and they float when they walk so that sometimes you just get surprised by them. Then there's the lizard that just crosses your path like frogs do in other places. They can also just stand motionless while looking at you from their small eyes. There are also fruit bats or flying foxes and also the occassional crows. But out of all these animals, I think the most friendly are really the fishes. They are really not scared of you floating above them. They just go on with their business and ignore you. I have even played and touched many a fishes' tail. I have missed them terribly. Have you heard a fish chewing? Hubby heard them first, described the sound to me and so the next time I snorkelled, I paid attention and heard it. It's a very "crunchy" sound and is especially loud with big fishes.
